How The Judgment Desk forms its recommendations

Published by Beltway MediaLast updated November 2026

Recommendations on this site come from Beltway Media's own published framework on AI, human judgment and trust, applied with the same stated criteria to every option compared.

Short answer

The Judgment Desk is written by Beltway Media. It is a professional point of view, not an independent review or audit. Rankings and comparisons use criteria stated on each page, third-party statistics are quoted exactly as published with their sources, and nothing on the site claims testing or research that did not happen.

How are the rankings and comparisons on this site decided?

Every comparison judges each option on the same criteria with the same kinds of facts. The task ranking on what to automate uses three questions: is the task routine, can errors be caught before publication, and does it state a position the organization must defend. The fractional CCO comparison uses five: strategic ownership, time commitment, execution capacity, accountability and best fit.

Alternatives are described by how they generally work, not by naming or criticizing specific providers. Where Beltway Media offers one of the options, the page says so.

Where facts and statistics come from

Facts about Beltway Media come from the firm itself. Industry statistics come from published third-party sources, named and linked next to each figure, and are never presented as Beltway Media's own data. Beltway Media has not independently verified those studies. Where no fact is available, the site says so rather than estimating. For example, Beltway Media does not publish pricing, and the site does not guess.

How the site is updated

Each page shows a “Last updated” date, changed only when the content changes. Because AI adoption figures and narrative cycles move quickly, statistics are reviewed when pages are refreshed. Read more about the publisher or return to the AI communications strategy guide.

What should I look for when choosing a communications consulting firm?
Look for senior people who will do the work, relevant sector experience, a clear method, honest answers about what they do not do, and thinking you can read before hiring. Beltway Media publishes its thinking openly, including on this site, so prospective clients can judge its point of view before a first call.
Can AI tools replace a communications consultant?
AI tools can replace some execution work but not strategic judgment. They draft quickly, yet they generate toward safe, average output and cannot be accountable for a position. A communications consultant decides what to say, when to stay silent and what evidence to publish, which is where Beltway Media argues the competitive edge now sits.
Is an AI communications strategy the same as an AI policy?
No. A policy sets rules: which tools are allowed, what data can go in, what must be reviewed. A strategy decides what the organization is trying to achieve and where human judgment creates an advantage. A good strategy contains a policy, but a policy alone will not tell you what to say or what to stand for.
